Advance Your Career with an RN to BSN

Registered nurses who would like to advance their careers, pay, leadership skills, and approach to patient care will benefit from our Bachelor of Science in Nursing: RN to BSN degree designed for working nurses.

This degree is offered as an online cohort-model program that enables nurses to tune into their course lectures and do their homework around their work schedules. The program can be completed in as few at 9 months. Courses are held in convenient 8-week sessions and are offered year-round. The program offers both a fall and a spring start. The curriculum includes seven core courses, including a nursing capstone course, and four elective courses. It also includes an in-person clinical component, which may be completed in students’ home communities.

According to third-party data sources, nurses with a BSN can earn up to $6,000+ more per year than an ADN/RN, depending upon region of the country. California pays significantly higher nursing wages than other parts of the U.S.

The RN to BSN program at University of La Verne is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

Scholarship Support and Cost

RN to BSN students who enter in the 2022-23 academic year and do not otherwise have a larger award will automatically qualify for $100 per unit in scholarship funding. Those who have previously attended a partner community college or who work at a partner hospital qualify for $100 per unit in additional scholarship funding, for a total of $200. This reduces the cost of tuition from $645 per unit to only $445 per unit.

Credit for prior learning

Students have the option of fulfilling up to eight (8) units of elective requirements at no cost by showing competency through prior learning or experience. To be eligible, students must have an unencumbered RN license and at least two (2) years of nursing experience.

Our RN to BSN is unique in that we explore the ways health inequities and social determinants impact health and well-being outcomes at both the patient and community level, while also teaching a holistic patient view that treats the physical and mental aspects of illness and care with parity. Cultural sensitivity skills also are a focus in preparing students to care for an increasingly diverse population. These highly desired skillsets will enable our graduates to perform at a more beneficial level with patients, employers, and the greater communities they serve.

The Need for a BSN Has Never Been Greater

While there is a critical shortage of nurses at every level, the advanced skills and knowledge an RN to BSN degree will provide have never been in greater demand. As more hospitals seek Magnet status and require more of their workforce to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, a BSN will become a necessity for job security and mobility. The university also has been teaching health-related degree programs for nearly a half century and understands the growing needs of an increasingly complex healthcare environment, where there is a deep shortage of nurses and nurses with successive degrees.

We offer special tuition rates for nurses affiliated with a wide variety of hospitals, health systems, and other medical providers in Southern California. Some of these include Choice Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Healthcare Partners Medical Group, Family Health Care Centers, Health Net, Huntington Memorial Hospital, Inland Empire Health Partners, and Kern Health Systems, among others. We also offer discounted tuition programs through Edcor and Ed Assist partnerships.

Members of the military and their spouses, as well as students transferring from Bakersfield College, Chaffey College, Citrus College, East Los Angeles College, Mt. San Antonio College, Pasadena City College and Rio Hondo College, can take advantage of special tuition pricing, as well.
